Residential/Camping

We run a range of residential/camping events over the year. These are scheduled to take place during (Norwich) school holidays:

  • Michaelmas (Autumn) half term:
    • A hill-walking/biking expedition, usually in a mountainous area (indoor accommodation);
    • A powerboat training event on the Southern Broads (living on the cruisers).
  • Lent (February) half term:
    • Walking and biking in Yorkshire or the Lake District (indoor accommodation).
  • Easter break:
    • A week’s training cruise on the Broads (living on the cruisers).
  • May half term:
    • A (sea) sailing course during the May half term based at RNSYC Lowestoft (indoor accommodation).
  • Summer break (all involving accommodation in tents):
    • A two-week summer camp – previous venues have included: Isle of Wight, Poole Harbour, Jersey, Chichester, Puslinch Dorset and Betteshanger Kent;
    • Surf Camp for Explorers (not every year);
    • A shorter alternative camp near the middle of August (Monmouthshire, Wye Valley);
    • A three-night Summer Camp for Cubs.
  • We also run a range of overnight events at weekends during term time:
    • One night “first-nighters” camp for Cubs;
    • One night “indoor camp” for Beavers;
    • Wild Camps – a chance to learn and practice backwoods skills.

As well as our regular scheduled programme, we also run various expeditions in support of badges and Explorer Belt. The latter must be planned by the Explorers themselves and take place overseas. Past Explorer Belt expeditions have included Cycling through France and Sailing our gig in the Netherlands.

We also compete in various events at national and local levels, as circumstances allow. These include the Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race and the National Scout Sailing Regatta.

Members, please see the Calendar or residential events (shown below) for details of what events are coming up.
